On Friday, July 8 at 4 o’clock, there will be a service to celebrate the life of Ross Dailey. Ross enjoyed sharing with each and every one in our congregation over the 35 years he attended our church. After the service there will be a gathering in the Fellowship Hall to share with the family. Adirondack Daily Enterprise In life there are two kinds of people. Some come and go in our lives unnoticed. And then there are the very precious few who touch our lives, and we are forever blessed. Ross Tallman Dailey, our kind, compassionate gentle husband, father and devoted grandfather, blessed our lives forever. He passed quietly in his sleep on Jan. 4, 2016, in Ocala, Florida. He is survived by his wife Karen Dailey, son Ryan Tallman Dailey (wife Melissa) and his oh-so-special three grandchildren: Tallman, Adalyn and Eli. He also is survived by his two sisters: Pamela Hillebrand (husband Robert) of Ocala, Florida, and Diane Dailey of Los Angeles, California. Ross was born June 18, 1936, in Pearl River. He graduated from Albany State Teachers' College with Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees. He received his Ph.D. from Michigan State University in 1972. He was the Business Department chairman at West Babylon High School on Long Island for more than 20 years. He moved with his family to Saranac Lake and began a 15-year employment with North Country Community College. His positions were associate professor, acting dean of students and chair of the Business, Recreation and Human Services Division. He was a respected colleague, sensitive leader and model educator. In 1993, Ross was granted a sabbatical to be a visiting professor in the Graduate School of Education at his alma mater, Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. He was joined by his son Ryan for a unique experience both of them shared, creating great memories and growing closer together as father and son. Karen and the family pet, Chelsey, remained in Saranac Lake as Karen was employed at the Tupper Lake Central School District as a math educator. Ross retired from NCCC in 1996. He continued a 15-year career as a U.S. soccer official throughout the North Country. His love of officiating brought him great joy. Many times parents could be heard saying, "Ross is the gentlest official on the field. When my daughter commits a foul, Ross always made it a teachable moment." Imagine if all youth could experience such kindness and learning. Ross was the director of the FHA at Kiwassa Road. When he left there, residents knew they were losing a uniquely compassionate leader for all. Ross was a 36-year member of the Saranac Lake United Methodist Church. He was the resident photographer for the church's annual Turkey Supper, capturing many memories of our church community effort. He so dearly appreciated all of the friends he made in the Tri-Lakes. If you are reading this and were fortunate enough to spend time with him, please know he enjoyed every conversation with you. He found much joy in his life by being able to touch others lives through his compassion and gentleness. He was as humble a man as they come, and we are grateful to be touched by his kindness. His 12-year-old, ever-loyal border collie, Buddy, survives. Two celebrations of Ross' life will be held. The first will be in Ocala, Florida, at Ocala West United Methodist Church on Friday, Jan. 8 at 4 p.m., followed by a small meal. The second celebration and meal will be held in Saranac Lake at the United Methodist Church sometime in May or June, followed by the spreading of his ashes. Those wishing to remember Ross may do any of the following: Make a donation in his name to the Tri-Lakes Humane Society in Saranac Lake, send flowers for the service on Friday to Ocala West United Methodist Church in Ocala, Florida, or post a story or memory on his memorial site at Beautiful Tribute.

 Lucille E. Wilson of McClelland Street, Saranac Lake died Thursday, December 18, at her home.
She was born on December 28, 1928, in Alden, NY, to Lester and Adah Dickinson . She married Arthur W. Wilson on May 5,1950. He predeceased her in June of 1987. Lucille is survived by her six children: Laura Amell, Linda (Tom) MacPherson, A. Bill Wilson, Alane (Carl) Day, Richard Wilson and Janice (John) D'Alessandro as well as thirteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Her brother in law, Jack Wild, and sister in law, Shirley Dickinson, also survive. Her two brothers, Gordon and Earl Dickinson, and her sister, Claire Wild predeceased her. Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. The family requests that donations in memory of Lucille be made to the First United Methodist Church in Saranac Lake in care of the funeral home. Born in 1940 in Massena, New York, he was the son of William Watson Collins and Aletha (Collins) Steenberg. He married Mary Wilson on May 28, 1965 in the First Baptist Church in Johnson City, Tennessee.
He graduated from Massena Central High School where he played football and on September 15, 2006 was inducted into Massena Central High School’s Outstanding Teams Hall of Fame. After graduating from high school, he played semipro football in New York and Canada. Later he went to East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee where he played football and was a member of Kappa Mu Epsilion and graduated Cum Laude from ETSU with a Bachelor of Science in 1966 in Mathematics and a Master of Science in 1968 in Mathematics. In 1968, he and Mary moved to Paul Smiths, New York where he taught mathematics at Paul Smith’s College for 37 years. After retiring in January 2005, he was bestowed the title of Professor Emeritus. He enjoyed giving students and friends math problems that would linger in their minds waiting to be solved. Don served as a board member as well as commissioner of the Saranac Lake Pee Wee Hockey Association; he later became president from 1986-1987. In addition, he volunteered for over ten years as a 7th and 8th.grade football coach for the Saranac Lake Central School District. He also tutored many students in mathematics and worked security at ORDA in Lake Placid and enjoyed working summers at the Lake Placid Horse Show. First and foremost he loved his family and the joy of his grandson, Cassidy, and his granddaughter, Lana. He especially enjoyed watching his son, Teradon, play sports; in fact, he never missed a practice or a game Teradon played. He was an avid reader and also enjoyed woodworking and restoring antique cars. We all loved his great sense of humor. Don is survived by his wife, Mary, of 49 years; his son, Teradon Collins and his wife Caryn Collins of Woburn, MA; two grandchildren: Cassidy Collins and Lana Collins; a sister-in-law, Sue Collins of Massena, NY, a sister Sylvia Quenneville (Marcel) of Massena, NY and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father William Watson Collins and his mother Aletha (Collins) Steenberg; his brother Paul Watson Collins and his sister-in-law, Betty Collins; his brother Gilbert (Gibby) Collins; his sister Barbara Steenberg, his brother-in-law Arthur Steenberg, and his step-father Harley Steenberg. At Don’s request, no calling hours will be held and a private burial will take place at a later date. A celebration of life will take place at a later date to be announced. September 16, 2014 KING, REV. ERIC R. - Reverend Eric R. King, age 100, passed away on September 16, 2014. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Trinity United Methodist Church of Roswell. Reverend Glenn Thyrion will be officiating. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, September 19, 2014 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel Rev. King was born on January 13, 1914 in Deer Harbour, Newfoundland Canada, to Edgar and Amelia King. He received his B.A. from Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick, and his B.D. from the McGill University in Montreal, Canada and continued his education at the United Theological College in Montreal, Canada. He did graduate work at Columba University in New York and was a Licentiate of the Institute of Pastoral Care in Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. In 1937, the Montreal-Ottawa Conference ordained him a minister of the United Church of Canada. He served twelve years as a minister in Montreal. In 1950, he was admitted to the Troy Methodist Conference of the United Methodist Church, Vermont. He served thirty years there and in upstate New York as Secretary of the Board of Pensions, the Joint Committee of Education and Missions and chaired the Rules and Resolutions Committees, in addition to being a part-time prison chaplain. He married his first wife Emily Bryant in 1940; they were together for 40 years until her passing in 1980. Rev. King specialized in working among the elderly and while serving the First United Methodist Church in Schenectady, New York together with a labor union leader, he formed a Council of Senior Citizens organization of some 5,000 members and was instrumental in re-contracting health insurance policies for the elderly. The council also founded a senior citizens center, which in the 1950’s was one of the first in the country. He became head of the R.S.V.P for the county and together with some Catholic nuns developed a health screening program for the elderly. At that time, there was much misunderstanding about the place of religion in schools and he formed a committee of Jews and Christians to develop areas of common understanding. Rev. King chaired that committee for 8 years. In 1982, he married his second wife Laura Brown. They moved to Colorado Springs in 1984. After much traveling in the U.S.A and abroad, Rev. King became Minister of Evangelism at First United Methodist Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Afterwards he became Associate Pastor of the Korean Methodist Church in the same city. Due to climate reasons, they moved to Roswell, New Mexico in 1993. Laura passed away April, 13, 2008 in Roswell. In 1999 for two years, Rev. King served as the First United Methodist Church in Roswell as Minister to Shut-Ins. In 2002, The Cumberland College in Willaimsburg, Kentucky awarded him an honorary degree doctor of divinity for lifetime service. On May 3, 2009, Rev. King married Onita Barkley a longtime friend. He was the love of her life for five plus years. For a series of articles he wrote to a local newspaper he was awarded “Champion Correspondent” by the New York Press Association. Rev. King is survived by his wife Onita Barkley King at the family home, along with several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by wives; Emily Bryant King and Laura Brown King, brothers; Erwin King, Lewis King and Grandville King, sister; Marjorie Thistle. Rev. King was active in many civic clubs – among them were the Roswell Rotary Club, Kiwanis Club of Roswell, the Roswell Midday Lions Club as its secretary and president served, the Roswell Daylight Order of Masons for several years as its Chaplain and as the District Grand Chaplain of The Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Canada, Quebec . Rev. King was known as one who loved people, and he loved God most of all. He was an effective preacher and pastor; many lives were changed because he came their way. He believed most of all in his heavenly father and he now is at home with him forever. Reverend Eric King will be greatly missed. The commemoration of 70 years after the D-Day invasion to liberate Europe is today. Let us take time to honor and pray for those of what Tom Brokaw has called "The Greatest Generation" who served our country in this historic event. Many were lost in this conflict and now occupy the hallowed ground of the Normandy American Cemetery & Memorial overlooking Omaha Beach. One of these individuals is my Uncle, Lawrence A. Roberts, who was among the first to make the ultimate sacrifice that day. I will be saying a special prayer in his memory and the memory of his fallen comrades. Sincerely, Alan D. Roberts

Our Church Family at First United Methodist Church of Saranac Lake are saddened by the passing of Lucille Richardson a long time member of our congregation. Our Thoughts and Prayers of Comfort are with Lucille's Family and Friends but we take Solace in the knowledge that she is in the loving arms of our Lord.
Excerpt from Obituary Lucille "Lucy" Ann Lewis Richardson, 77, of Saranac Lake died Monday, April 7,2014 with her family by her side, after a courageous battle from a spinal injury. She was born Nov. 26, 1936, daughter of Delores (VanNortwick) and Raymond Richardson. She graduated from Saranac Lake High School in 1954.Lucy married Denton "Destry" Lewis on April 16, 1955. Lucille had a 35 year career with NY Telephone as an operator and supervisor. After her retirement she kept herself busy with various part time job including Tupper Lake National Bank, North Country Home Services and private pet care. Lucille was a member of numerous organizations, including SL Golf Club, Catholic Daughters, Telephone Pioneers, Lady of the Elks, and most recent United Methodist Church.
