Saturday, October 27th at First United Methodist Church Of Saranac Lake
On Saturday, October 27th, the Plattsburgh State Gospel Choir (PSGC) will come to the Saranac Lake First United Methodist Church for a workshop and evening concert. The PSGC, a group organized by students in 1991, seeks to share this unique American genre. They average 25 performances annually throughout the region and have performed nationally and internationally in Washington, D.C., Toronto and Tokyo, among others. They have also performed in Saranac Lake for First Night. The choir has appeared on several TV shows including the WORD Network and Mountain Lake PBS. In 2014, they placed second in the Gospel Choir Competition held at the University of Binghamton. They have released seven CD’s and two DVD’s. Since 1991, Dexter Criss has served as the choir’s pianist and now artistic director.
The workshop, with two master classes offered by the choir, runs from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. All singers are invited and no music reading is needed. The class is free but the “Dreamers,” the Peace with Justice Committee of the Saranac Lake Ecumenical Council asks attendees to bring a dish to pass for the potluck lunch and dinner. Reservations are requested for the workshop as spots may be limited. To RSVP, please email Lisa Meissner at [email protected].
The evening concert, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., will feature both the Gospel Choir and workshop participants. The concert is free to attend and donations will be accepted for Samaritan House in Saranac Lake. The Samaritan House provides transitional housing and support services for homeless people in Saranac Lake.
